The Winter Blahs Make People Dream Of Summer
People all over dread the winter blahs. This signifies shoveling snow, dealing with slippery road conditions, and being cold. Well, maybe some people. Just as many, or maybe even more are on their way to the slope the minute they hear it's going to snow. Some of these people are expert black diamond skiers, others just enjoy the exercise. In fact, many of these people have the skis on the roof of the car by the end of October. They also keep their winter coat in the back seat of their car all year round, just in case'
Something that skiers should always keep in mind is safety on the slopes. Of course this starts by showing courtesy to younger, older, and less experienced skiers. Obviously this means courtesy should be shown to everyone. What some people are unaware of is that many resorts now require skiers to wear a ski helmet. This is absolutely necessary in ensuring the safety of children. Certainly adults wearing helmets will be doing themselves a favor, while setting a good example as well.
Crazy things can be seen on the slopes. Bikers can be seen wearing all leather. This is not very warm, but definitely creates a unique look. People can be seen skiing while dressed as Santa Claus, elves, and even wearing sleepwear. Spring skiing is the funniest thing ever. At this time of year some people wear shorts, and even bikinis. This is certain to be a bit chilly, but worse than that, is when they are later seen covered in scratches after taking a fall'
Yes indeed, winter time can be joyful to many folks. Sledding, building snowmen, ice sculptures, drinking cocoa by the fire, and so much more make this a winter carnival.
Then there are some of us who prefer to be laying on the beach. Thinking about this makes one long for the smell of the ocean air, cocoa butter, and even the seagulls. That is truly the greatest.
And now, back to reality, back to snow shovels and ice scrapers. Time to curl up by a warm fire. Time to dress the children in suffocatingly snug snowsuits and mittens. Maybe when the new baby is placed into the crib with it's Ladybug baby bedding, we can pretend that the ladybugs are arriving with the spring breeze.
For now, the winter blahs go on.
