What should I do if my period is very heavy?
I've always had an irregular cycle after I had my period for the first time. I started having my period when I was finishing 3rd grade and going onto fourth. My period comes twice a month or even every three months. I never know when I'm going to get it. After two months, I got it again. Here's the problem: I normally have a semi-heavy flow but now it's gotten very heavy. I have to change pads more often than normal. Should I go to a doctor? What's wrong with me? Should I consider birth control?
I can understand your frustration. Having an abnormal period is annoying and sucks, especially when its heavy. I didn't get my period so early in age as you did, but when i was 13. But from the first period i ever got, it was always so heavy. Then in my 20's they started to become so painful and heavy, but very irregular. So i decided to take birth control. I talked over some different birth control pills with my gyno. I also have cysts on my ovaries, which is called poly cystic syndrome, which is why i was having so much pain and heavy periods. I have been taking birth control for two months now, and my period still comes after taking the pill for 21 days, but comes on time, and lasts only 3 days, and is not heavy but just a light and normal period. I am so happy! I feel like i have my life back.
So go to a gyno and ask for a good birth control that won't cause weight gain, that is a low-dose birth control pill. It will help. At least try it and see if it works for you. You probably or maybe have cysts on your ovaries also, so ask for an ultrasound by your gyno. Usually they suggest this themselves, when they do the exam they can feel if your ovaries are a little swollen.
