Moving forward, when one muse over a Spanish master, one cannot help but keep in mind that most of the popular painters of Spain lived and flourished during the Golden Age. One painter that made a legacy and became most famous of them all is Diego Velasquez; he became so famous that he is also known as one of the most distinguished person in his era. Velasquez could be acknowledged as Spain’s most well-known and revered masters who has produced many notable and admirable paintings.
Much of Diego Velasquez’s childhood was not something out of the ordinary; he raised with five other siblings and was the oldest of the brood. Velasquez’s talent was so noticeable that at the young age of eleven, he started his lesson with another master of the arts at that time whose name was Francisco Pacheco. Eventually, Diego Velasquez fell in love with his master’s daughter and chose her as his wife; he settled down in a house he bought through earnings he made in his paintings and he also purchased another house which he rented out to tenants.
The career of Diego Velasquez as a master painter was made brighter by producing many pieces which were unparalleled during his era. One of his numerous famous artwork was The Surrender of Breda which he created after he had the pleasure of meeting the Marques de Spinola; needless to say, Spinola was amazed at the amount of details and the way that Velasquez was able to capture the expressions of emotion of the subjects in the artwork. However, Diego will pursue art and he would produce an artwork that would be more famous and more brilliant than the Surrender of Breda, he will be widely known for his piece called Las Meninas or The Maids in Honour; The painting is said to be the most sought after piece in the world and until now most people visit Spain just to see this wonderful work of art.
Diego Velasquez can really be identified as one of Spain’s national pride because of the fame of the artworks that he made and the impact it made on painting as an art form.
