Purple Apple: I love Discobolus, too!
I could say "Aphrodite of Melos" , "Hermes by Praxiteles" and all the sculptures the others said. These are truly miracles of art.
But my top favorite sculpture is not one of these.
The sculpture i will say maybe has not got the beauty of the above (after all it's from an older era) , but it's beauty (in my opinion) derives from the small information that gives about the person who is presented. A clue about a personal story of a simple person who lived in antiquity.
This is "Kori Frasikleia" ("Κόρη Φρασίκλεια").

It has an inscription that says :
"Σήμα Φρασίκλειας, κόρη κεκλήσομαι,αιεί αντί γάμου παρά Θεών τούτο λαχουσ' όνομα.
Αριστίων Πάριος μ' επόεσε "
"Σημαίνω τον τάφο της Φρασίκλειας, θα καλούμαι για πάντα κόρη, αφού οι θεοί αντί για γάμο μου όρισαν αυτό το όνομα. Με έφτιαξε ο Αριστίων ο Πάριος"
"I signify the grave of Frasikleia, i will always be called daughter since the gods instead of wedding designate me this name. I was made by Aristion of Paros".
As you can understand this girl died young, without being married.
You can see it in the National Archaeological Museum, Athens.
