what made chinese survive till today as a language that uses pictographs?
All other languages that were written with characters and pictographs died, like Hieroglyphic, Mayan, and Naxi. what's the reason behind Chinese's survival?
Modern Chinese characters are for the most part NOT pictographs. Very, very few characters are actually pictorial representations of things/objects/concepts. The vast majority of characters are a combination of a meaningful element (radical) and a phonetic element.
And as to why the written language has survived as it has, that is because it is perfectly suited to the nature of the language.
