Spain Travel - You'll Have A Better Time If You Follow These Tips
Spain is an ever popular location for visitors and tourists. It may be viewed by many as merely a place to get some sun and sand but it is also popular for backpackers who want to see a little bit more of the country than the beach. Here are some tips for those intent on backpacking round Spain.
I guess it's an obvious first tip, but if you plan to get off the tourist beat then you should learn Spanish. What's more, even if you decide to spend much of your time in the cities, speaking the language will make your stay easier.
It may be true that many people in Spain, particularly Madrid, Barcelona and many of the tourist resorts will speak English you shouldn't expect people to speak English (and indeed most won't or may object to having to speak English). Even simple phrases will make a big difference. If you make an effort the locals will make more of an effort to accommodate you too.
Next, try to get a plan of your travels together. Whilst it is more romantic to be spontaneous and travel here and there on a whim, it will also be more expensive. If you are back packing, your money may be tight so you want to limit the expensive. If you organize where you will be at certain times and dates, you can try to pre book tickets on the various modes of transport you will be using. You can save heaps if you book in advance. Saving money means more time can be spent in Spain which is even better.
Don't let the weather interfere with your time in Spain. Spain is one of the better parts of Europe for weather. Indeed, parts of southern Spain get more days of sunshine per year than most parts of the world. Try to begin your travels in the spring or early summer. The north is more likely to be cooler and have inclement weather so try starting in the north and work your way down to the south. This should limit the extent that the weather plays in your travels. Although a bit of rain never harmed anyone anyhow.
Madrid and Barcelona are the main two cities that you must see. There is heaps to see in these two great cities. To be honest you could spend weeks in each city but not everyone has this sort of time, so a few days will be enough to see the must see things. If you only have a few days, mark off the must see things first and do them first.
With this said, there is much more to Spain than these two great cities. And Spain is a large country. The best way to see other parts of Spain is to use the fast train. You can get from one end of the country to the next in a matter of hours and still get to see the countryside as you go. You never get this close when you are 20 thousand feet in the air on a plane.
Spain is a great place to visit and you will have a wonderful time if you make some simple plans before hand.
