80s nostalgia is rampant- but would we really go back?
Anyone got any idea what has caused this recent waves of eighties nostalgia? This recent decade has seen most things that were popular in the eighties re-appear. 80's Starlet Kim Wilde is back out on the road touring again and those 'gold'en boys Spandeau Ballet have just reformed. Thrash metal, a subgenre of metal that died because of 90s grunge has dug itself out of the grave and continued its metal party with new thrash bands such as Evile and Municipal Waste popping up and 80's bands Kreator, Exodus and Testament are getting some much deserved recognintion. Bright coloured clothing and quirky t-shirts have come back 'in', so why are we looking to the eighties with such misty eyed awe?
- We werent invited to the party. With hand on heart I cant remember the eighties- probably because i was born in '84, so i remember the ninties more. But thats the point, people werent there, so will wonder what was it like -and hopefully wont ask their parents, setting them off on a misty eyed journey of their youth.
- We've never had more fun with music. At all. Guitar solos, pyrotechnics and big hair all disappeared once the 90s can in, when music became all serious -a shame. Each decade stands against what the old one was about, to kill off the oversaturation of the marketplace and bring in something thats seemingly refreshing. And not one Coldplay track in sight.
- The economies arch nemises: the recession. We all need to escape from the reality of the credit crunch, so we do need to let our hair down and party sometimes- provided its cheap-ish. The ninities was dingy and depressing with Brit Pop, so we cant go back there to escape. Music and fashion needs to be fun again so we dont stress ourselves out too much, if only for afew hours before going back to worrying.
- A rebellion of the 90s, and a reflection of the times. Fashion and music relfects whats going on with our society in general at the time, and its also a opposite of what came before it. Which means only one thing:
I'm going to have to sit through a 90's revival in afew years time. Damn, delay this for as long as possible with some converse trainers and some cool t-shirts.
