The black Koi differ from the other varieties due to their coloring and pattern, and not much else. They can grow up to 36 inches long, that's why there's a need for them to be kept in large ponds. It can age up to 35 years. These fish can always be seen in outdoor ponds throughout the globe.
Types:
There are also various species for this kind of fish. First is the Magoi Koi, one of the first of all black mutations that can grow very long. They may look black when viewed from above, but their actual color is deep bronze. Their blood is reintroduced to the other species' in order to hasten and maximize the growth potential of others (due to their unique possiblities in terms of size).
The Karasu (Japanese for "crow") is another one of those extremely old species. It is characterized by its black fins and body. They can also have an orange or white belly.
The Matsukawabake have areas or white on its body. This can have the ability to change color. Due to environmental effects and their diet, their color changes from a duller or brighter shade of color. The season/water temperature can change the color of the fish completely, turning them to completely black or completely white. It will return to its original color and pattern once there's a change in condition.
The Kumonryu is the most popular of the species. It first debuted in the 1980's. "Kumonryu" is Japanese for "dragon fish". It's been called as such as its body resembles those of the bodies of dragons represented in ancient paintings. Some may think that these fish look like dragons rising up through the sky. It also has the means to change its pattern and color.
The broad array of colors of this species makes them a great attraction to spectators. Besides this, what's even more exciting is that you can own a fish that can truly change its color quickly right before your eyes, like some black Koi can!
