Kwan Yin The Deity Of Mercy
More commonly referred to as the Goddess of mercy, Kwan Yin is considered to be an immortal by the Chinese Taoists. Her whole name is Kwan Shih Yin which translates as the “Observing sounds of the world”.
Kwan Yin is also called in different names such as “The Savior of Seamen and Fishermen”, “The Gentle Protector” and “The Bodhisattva of Compassion”. Regardless of what name they address her, Kwan Yin will always be a symbol of unconditional love and compassion.
Kwan Yin is a single Spirit that possesses a very complex energy presence. The name Kwan Yin symbolizes the Chinese image of the goddess that possesses the qualities of a compassionate mother. This characteristic is thought to have resulted Kwan Yin to obtain a deep involvement with the people who are in need.
People who go through with illness, weakness and dread ask for the help of Kwan Yin. A lot of people believe that even though Kwan Yin is very merciful towards men, she is still more concerned children and infants.
Kwan Yin is also approached by couples with fertility issues so that she can gift them with a child; this is how she got the title as the “giver of children”.
It is said that Kwan Yin cares for the souls of people from their birth to their death. People say that she sends the newborn children into their parents’ hands. The influence of the Goddess of Mercy has spread throughout the countries in the east such as China, Korea, Japan and Malaysia. In fact, these countries feature temples that have deities and images of Kwan yin.
The belief of the Kwan Yin is connected with the Buddhist faith. There are references to that were dated around 400AD. During those times, Buddha was already worshipped for a thousand years. During that era, the Indian Buddhism introduced the concept of the Bodhisattva of Compassion to China.
Kwan Yin was thought to be a male god at first, but it didn’t take long and they changed the form into a female figure.
In 1200 AD, depictions of Kwan Yin was shown as a beautiful Goddess who wears flowing robes. In several illustrations, Kwan Yin is described as a Goddess with many arms and hands. Each hand is shown to possess an eye in the palm. This says that she is watching each and every one of us. She is also known to be Buddha’s right eye.
Some people believe that Kwan Yin is an incarnation of Amitabha Buddha. Some even believe that Kwan Yin really existed at around 700BC as Chinese princess Mao Shan.
Regardless of what people believe about the name Kwan Yin’s origins, they are all the same with their belief that Kwan Yin symbolizes kindness, pure energy, enlightenment and rebirth. Even though most people only see her as a mythical figure, she is still being worshipped as a living presence.
Kwan Yin is the Goddess who is known to answer all the needs of the people who call her name. She removes all the sorrow in the hearts of men and fills it with love, peace and serenity.
