A famous music type that came from Spain is Flamenco, which a number of people mistakenly condisered to be the national music of Spain. However, Flamenco is only known in one area; Flamenco originated in Andalusia, an autonomous community in Spain and regarded as the second largest in terms of land area in Spain. Because Spain’s music has been shape by a number of countries, their music is dissimilar from region to region.
A famous music that is extracted from Spain is Flamenco, which many people thought to be a popular music in Spain. Flamenco also portrays the unique music and culture of Spain; however, discoveries exploring the origins of Flamenco until today have inconclusive findings.
During the times when the Flamenco gained popularity as a dance style, Andalusia was a very poor region and was neglected from the rest of Spain. Another study shows that Flamenco is a mix of gypsy dance culture and the descendants of Moorish music during the 8th century until the 17th century; also there are experts that consider that apart from gypsy and Moorish influence, Byzantine church music, and the music of India and Egypt played a important part in shaping Flamenco. Also, Flamenco was mostly danced by the common people or the lower levels of society, and upper class society did not have much interest on it; the historians that time missed the importance of recording such music. Also the Jews, Muslim, and Gitanos which make up the lower class were being persecuted during the Spanish Inquisition in 1492; given that they are poor, they maintained the music and dance by oral tradition as most of them do not have education and cannot write.
Researchers, historians and experts are still discussing and researching to know the exact history and roots of Flamenco; how Flamenco got its name is still unknown. It’s quite extraordinary that this dance style affected people of different cultures even if it was heavily look down on in the beginning.
