I found a rosary that is 6ft. long 20 yrs ago buried in my backyard. How do I find out where they came from?
I took them to a local museum..no luck there. Searched the internet and even tried ebay...can't seem to find anything! It says made in Italy and seems to be made of some sort of bone or ivory. Each bead is the size and shape of a walnut with four sides that are carved with detailed pictures. They are linked together by some sort of metal that isn't rusted which you would think after being ourside in the moisture that it would have rusted. Baffled...
None of the pictures look like the one I found. The family before us....30 something years ago....knew nothing about them. They seem way to heavy and large for a belt. It weighs about ten lbs. It was buried pretty deep in the ground. Ugh it's so frustrating...really thought the museum guy would know.
Congratulations, if nothing else you've found an interesting artifact/conversation piece. As for the non-rusted bits, only ferrous or iron containing materials rust, so it could be made of a alluminum or possibly even silver(in absolutely no effort to get your hopes up over value). As for the item itself, I used to have a rather large one myself as a wall decoration, but I've also heard they can be used as belts.
