Is my "human bone" chess set really human bone?
I have a chess set which has been in my family for as long as I can remember, at least since the late 60s. It resembles the "Upright Crossover" sets I've seen online, with painted faces and intricately carved bone overlaying wood.
My father told us that one of his brothers got it in Mexico from an old man who sat outside a prison and carved these sets from human bone. Other people say they've heard the same stories. Can there be any truth to it? Is it possible that it's really human bone?
As a child, I found the story interesting. As an adult, I find it horrifying, and I don't want it in my house.
It's probobly just animal bone and was sold advertised as human bone to make touristy types buy it.
